Yes. UK citizens travelling to Canada by air are required to hold a valid Canada eTA (Electronic Travel Authorization) before boarding their flight. This requirement has applied since November 2016 and covers British citizens, British Overseas Territories citizens, and British Nationals (Overseas). The eTA is not required for travel by land or sea — for example, crossing the border from the United States by road or rail. Without a valid eTA, airlines must deny boarding. The application is completed entirely online and takes most applicants under 10 minutes. Your eTA is valid for five years or until your passport expires, whichever comes first.
